Hopefully I be the owner of a house next week and would like to find a good dog. Preferablly a breed that is easy to train b/c I will have to train myself. Any help would be appreciated. :D :D

I would have to say get yourself a good ole black lab. Make sure parents aren't huge and you'll have yourself a good house dog that won't tear everything up.

The only advice I have is to start out with a pup from a working back ground. Don't just assume it will hunt because it is a certain breed of dog. Don't waste your time and money on animals that just don't have what it takes to make it. There may be trainers out there that can train any dog to do anything but I'm not one of them and it makes everything about owning a dog more enjoyable when you have one that wants to work for you. Check out some kennels with good reps, you'll pay more but most stand behind what they sell and will replace if genetic defects show up down the road. However, not all pups from individuals are incapable of hunting, but do some research and be careful. My dog now didn't come from a kennel but both parents hunted and it shows in the pup. The best advice I ever read was that it is more important to pick the liter than to get the pick of the liter. Spend the time to do the research and it will pay off. Good luck!

SB got it down. Hunt test breedings are the best bang for your buck. Great bloodlines, often you can see the parents in a working environment (i.e. a hunt test) beforehand, usually health guarentees, all for little more than a newspaper mix matched litter. More to breeding good dogs than putting 2 labs together. travis
