where is the best location (state and location) for duck hunting, i.e., where do people consistently kill ducks? I am not talking about canada, south dakota, etc.....but places within 10 hours of Jackson, MS. want to get a good lease next year.

I always found Stuttgart to be over rated. North Arkansas is under rated in my opinion. However, right now the boat dock ducks in the Pascagoula Harbour are starting to look tempting.

I dont believe Stuttgart is overated. About 3 years ago you couldnt beat it. But now about every place in the south is terrible. Not really a best place in my opinion. Im goin up to Stuttgart this weekend does anyone know if they have ducks.

I know a guy who has a high dollar lease around there and he had a decnt opening weekend and one other weekend that he did good. The number of times he has gone and NOT fired a shot out-number the times he has shot.

Its not about the killing, or limits everytime, but to pay $$$ for a lease in the rice/duck capital of the world and go hunting 10-12 times and not fire a shot on 7-8 hunts is not a good thing.

If I was willing to drive 10 hours I would look into a lease in Illinois. They seem to be doing all the killing!

Im goin up to Stuttgart this weekend does anyone know if they have ducks.

I had friends up there several days ago with a guide and they pretty much crapped out. They might have new birds now.

Gulf is right, the guide i know has had a so-so season, had to refund a few hunts, think all the south is really bad....head north, to hot in these parts.

An interesting question. Instead of looking for areas where people "consistenly kill ducks", perhaps one would look for a place where one could kill ducks when there are few ducks in your neighborhood - Jackson, MS. I figure you've thoroughly scouted your local area and have places to hunt there, which are useful if ducks are in your area. What you might look for is a spot to lease that would be especially useful if the ducks don't come to Jackson. A good example of a place to NOT lease is Stuttgart. While historically a good duck hunting spot in general, the last five years have been miserable in and around Stuttgart, in general. This year, Bayou Meto is dry! Looking at Stuttgart and Jackson, MS on a map, if the ducks have come to Stuttgart, there are ducks in Jackson. Not that much difference in terms of a southerly migration to a duck.
If I was you, I'd drive about 10 hours north and lease there. Then, if the ducks stay north, you've got a good chance at a good place. And, if the north freezes, you can always hunt in MS. By leasing 10 hours north of you, you're increasing your chances of hunting where the ducks are. By leasing in mid or south Arkansas, or in Texas, you are gambling the ducks come south, and if they come south, why would you leave Jackson?
For example, from Jackson to St Louis is about a 7.5 hours drive. This year, and for the past five years, that would have put you under a lot more duck potential than Stuttgart, which is overrated (IMHO) in terms of what you get for what you pay for. As Gulfcoast wisely said, NE Arkansas is underrated. NE Arkansas has consistenly done better than the Stuttgart area, especially for the past five years. That can always change next year.
A field that has a 10-year average of killing 100 ducks per season may have killed 1000 ducks one year, then went 9 years without firing a shot. This means that you only have a 1 in 10 chance of firing your gun by leasing that field!
And, you've gotta define "ducks". Are you content to shoot shovelers? Teal? or do you want greenheads?
And for the guy headed to Stuttgart this weekend, if you're planning to hunt public, better bring your own water with you, 'cause there ain't any over there!

wrong about the water thing in public area i was there this weekend and was plenty of water more than 3 weeks ago....(south of stugart) hunted 20 minutes north of there was plenty of birds just my 2 cents let the bands fly....
