i dont like the diameter of the bullet, but for the trajectory i dont know of one in its class that can beat it. the energy for knock down isnt what i like.

my opinion on it though.

that question can open a can of worms greater than the hammer thread

They're about the same energy wise as a 270. I've shot both and they aren't my favorite really but they'll both kill them fine with a good bullet. I've been shooting a pump 270 since I was about 12 and I wouldn't trade it for anything especially for an all around management area gun. I prefer my 7mm Ruger though for total knock down.

Yep, I am a definite fan of the quarter bore rifles for deer. 25-06 and 257 roberts are both in my collection and will absolutely get it done on deer.

My hunting partner has shot one for 20 years, don't know how many deer it has dirt-rolled. Use good bullets and its bad medicine.

I've been shooting a 25-06 for 7 years and love it. Haven't had a deer make it more than 20 yards after being shot.

Plenty umph for deer.. Lack of good bullet selection is the only issue. You may be able to find some good stuff on line though.

I shoot one and love it.I've shot a wide range of ammo but prefer the Hornady 117 grain Light Magnums.

I have been shooting one for about 15 years now. I wouldn't trade for the world. I used to shoot remington 125 gr core locs but now shoot the winchesters silvertips.

first off, a .22 long will kill deer with correct shot placement.
.243 will kill deer all day long with correct shot placement.

that said i never figured my 25-06 out, range and accuracy where exceptional(mine would rag the same hole @ 100 yrds). that said i never found a bullet with any thump to it (not saying they are not out there i just never found them). i shot some custom loads, federal premiums, best was the triple shock, but even with those i had one doe run past me after being drilled through both lungs an heart (it was a low shoulder shot) she was @300 yrds when i shot her. there were several other instances of deer going much farther than they should have for the shot placement only one was wounded and it was an awsome buck that i saw several time after that (it was a marginal shot that woulda been fatal with my 30-06 IMO). i ened up only taking head and neck shots the last two years i hunted with it then traded it off, because i had simply lost confidence in it

and confidence in the gun your shooting (IMO) is as important if not moreso than the gun you are shooting.

thats my experience with them. i prefer something in .30 cal for me

thats my $.02 on them, but rifles are like women, everyone likes somthing differant and some work differant for differant folks

Federal 115 grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claw ammo is the best that I've found. I shot a 120lb doe @ 263 yards, last year, and she dropped within 10 yards. Shot a 210lb buck, three years ago, @ 100ish yards and he dropped in his tracks.

I have a bi-centennial ruger m77 that my pop got me over 20 years ago. Killed several deer with it. Nice round.

I shoot one and love it - I shoot the 117gr hornadys and have never had a problem. Switched to a 300 weatherby for a while - now back to the 25.
