Worked my dog for a while this morning. When I got back home i noticed some doves on the ground by his kennel. When I told him to kennel he headed for the gate and the doves flushed. One of the doves flew into the kennel. Ace was right behind him, and it was on. By the time I got there he had the dove in his mouth. My first thought was I could clip his wings and use him to train with. My second thought was how many laws would that break? I let the dove go and he flew off without any trouble. My question is what about the legality of keeping to train with?

Use a pigeon instead. Slightly bigger, and no problem with breaking laws.

I have done the pigeon thing when the dog was about 4 months old. He's 9 months now. I was just curios how wrong it would have been to use that dove.

Doves are federally regulated. There's your answer.

I'm curious about this too. What do the regulations say about using doves for training? And what about those Eurasian ring-necked doves (city doves)? Are they regulated too?
