where are you located? as far as areas of the state? there are a lot of good public lands around. find some Core land, or core lakes, WMA's or even national forest in your area along with refuge's. Call a local game warden and the people who work these area's. they are a great asset to you. Now obviously they aren't going to tell you exactly where to go but they can help point you in the right directions. Also ask questions such as access, will you need a boat? walk in on foot? can you ride 4 wheeler in? Remember to ask about any special permits you might also have to have to hunt these areas. At all of their check in stations they should have maps, take a gps with you and do your scouting before you ever plan on hunting.
Also, talk to local farmers, people in your community and church. you'll be surprised at the acreage you can come up with by just being nice and polite and lending a helping hand sometimes.
Find creeks and rivers, beaver ponds, backwater in timber and so forth, find water and you should at least find some wood ducks.
hope this helps, shoot me a pm if you have an specific questions

Catfisher:
Google "MS wildlife management areas" and look for those in your area. Be sure to get a WMA permit and check for local regulations on the number of shells, etc.

Rite now... Find water and you'll find ducks as dry as it is. Jus go to mdwfp and look up the waterfowl hunting and public land. I guess all the bashing has slowed down since it crimus time!
