Alright...Time to Rate the Season (2010-11)

Postby Deltamud77 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:07 am

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the worst ever and 10 being the best ever, how do you personally rate the 2010-11 waterfowl season?

Please explain your rating...

I'll give my season a 5*...

*hunted less this year than any in the previous 20 years, but when I hunted it was pretty good...

I'll give it a range being I hunted two different spots.

My blind - 2

Basin - 6

I hunted good up until new years. I didn't hunt once in the month of jan. Then when I got able to hunt again I lost my drive and started thinking about fishing.

4 on kills and ducks seen....10 on the memories. On youth weekend a albino teal landed in the decoys but my son didn't see it and pulled the trigger on a mallard before I could stop him. Killed two redheads and a ruddy in our blind....never done that before.....took a bunch of kids hunting and thats always rewarding. Took my son's friend with us when it was about 25 degrees one morning....i gave him an old pair of waders to wear...I didn't know they had a hole in the right boot...his foot was frozen when we got to the truck....fast forward three weeks, he goes with us again. I gave him the same waders to wear, but this time it was only for warmth, he was going to hunt from the bank....well the boot still had water in it...it was a balmy 28 that day....he didn't last long and went to the truck to warm his foot up.....good memories.

i got to go!!! got introduced to true timber hunting(thanks RbsDrake). got to hunt some amazing properties, and got to hunt with friends i havn't had the opportunity to hunt with in a few yrs. ducks flew good on most every hunt. didn't always kill full limits, but always worth going.

but the best was sunday am, I took my lil boy to a pond and he got to watch some mallards set in. and he loved it. especially getting his rubber boots muddy

so even though work kept me from going as much as i woulda liked, water was short, birds were scattered, it was a 10 all the way

Best ever. Killed Mallards all year. BTW I am not a mallard purist just prefer them to others.

Great first half, mediocre second half. Can't wait to get after them flatheads now.

8! not too bad of a year for some east mississippi ducks! shot more limits this year than I have in the past couple years, got plenty of mallards and a good many canvas backs and of coarse more woodies than I care to count!
