I thought there was a post on here not long ago about restaurants in Memphis. I searched but couldn't find it.
Anyway, I want to take my wife out to eat at a very nice restaurant. I'm talking about a place that will be quiet or an ALMOST suit and tie kinda place that will have some really excellent food. Not concerned with the price, just looking for fine dining options in Memphis. No BBQ places or anything like that. Looking for a fancy place where the high falootin people go.

Flemming's Steak House on poplar
Peabody Downtown
Texas de' Brazil Downtown
Folks Folly off Poplar
There are more but any of these will get you what you want...

If you aren't concerned with price go to Chez Philippe in the Peabody Hotel. The food and service is outstanding.

Folks Folly is very nice. Very good steaks and other dishes and falls under the "price not being an option category and pretty quiet. It's definately has the rich folk atmosphere. I don't think the steaks are better than Ruth's Chris (but it's definately on par), but a lot of folks in Memphis prefer it because it's not a chain like Ruth's Chris. Folks Folly has more options other than steak too. There is a Ruth's Chris too (though it's not a Memphis only place). Texas De Brazil downtown next to the Peabody but it definitely isn't quiet at all, but it has terrific meats. Flemmings is expensive, but Folks Folly and Ruth's Chris have much better food.

no no no no.....
The River Inn of Harbor Town is an awesome, upscale bed & breakfast place.

Paulette's is an established quality restaurant that has moved in to their facility.
Fantastic place. Formal, and worth every penny. It will be a very unique place
to eat.

Go to Flight. It's downtown off south main, I believe. I've eaten there a couple times and it's been great. The first time I had duck and quail. The last time I had a steak and it was better than any I've had from folks folly. They have complimentary valet parking also.

I also second all the ones that have been suggested but I think the Capriccio Grill in the Peabody spanks them all!

Flight has been really good the last few times I've been. Maybe not as fancy as folks folly but very good. Folks folly is very good also. Ruths is always good if you like the butter.

Paulette's has or is moving to the river inn space on mud island, but i think they are doing away with the fine dining concept. Texas de Brazil is good but not a really nice place, at least not in my book. If you want to go downtown i would suggest Felicia Suzanne's on Main. If you wanna go out east Folk's Folly at Poplar/Mendenhall. Erling Jensen is supposed to be really good but i have never been there. As far as the coat/tie thing Folk's is your best bet.

ACRE Restaurant will be opening in the next few weeks. Chef Wally Joe that originally started KC's in Cleveland is opening it.
Address is 690 S. Perkins, Memphis, TN. Should be great.
