Any flooding West of 61 in Valley Park?
What's it like around Valley Park now? I hear it's supposed to get pretty bad.
Re: Any flooding West of 61 in Valley Park?
New crest of 92.5

Land side at Steele Bayou structure? Not quite as bad as '09.DanP wrote:New crest of 92.5

Yes, landside. It will likely be bumped up to 93' soon.

How is that read? I've always wondered what the base it off of versus the river? Is that elevation? Is it read in feet? 93-94= 1 foot difference?DanP wrote:Yes, landside. It will likely be bumped up to 93' soon.

Zero gauge at the SB structure is zero elevation -- pretty sure. I think zero gauge on the river at V'burg is 46ft of elevation.

That is correct. So 93' is realtive to mean sea level. Gauge zero on the MS River @ Vicksurg is 46.23, so if you add the River Stage to that (41.41 right now) that equals 87.6' for a means of comparison.stang67 wrote:Zero gauge at the SB structure is zero elevation -- pretty sure.
As novacaine pointed out for this particular river flood you would add 1/2 ft elevation per river mile going up stream on the Mississippi. But, that doesnt apply in the Yazoo Basin (at least by my comparisons of historic gauge data, and I'm definitely not an engineer).

So in laymens terms....what number should we look for it to start approaching FUBAR status?
Re: Any flooding West of 61 in Valley Park?
Hard to say, fubar is relative to where you are down there. It hit 101.43 in 1973 and that was like catostrophic leroy get the truck and chickens and head to the hills fubar... Got close to 94' in 2008 and there was a helluva lot of water out there. 91' floods about 225,000 acres of timber and 100,000 acres of ag land. Not sure of the exact numbers higher than that. Some of the guys that were around in 73' could give you a lot more detail.deltadukman wrote:So in laymens terms....what number should we look for it to start approaching FUBAR status?
BTW - Just got off the phone with COE and the backwater crest has been pushed up again to 93.5 to 94.

FYI the top of the Steele Bayou structure is at 110. Saw it for myself yesterday and the water on the river side was just shy of 89. It's gonna look really weird with only 6 or 7 feet of levee sticking out on the river side.

father in law farms on 61 right at the bridge in redwood. entire farm is covered in water of course. in 2008 the water was only half a foot lower than in 73. projected crest in vicksburg is 57.5 which will put it right at the same level of the big one in 1927. in 27 the river crested in vicksburg at 56. it would have been 60 in vicksburg had the levees not broken.
that being said, when we drove home sunday you sould see water on left side of the road in the fields (steele bayou side), and on the right side (yazoo diversion canal side). My wife and I have been together for 16 years. I have helped move equipment for 16 years, and I have never seen water like this in my life.
Drove down low water bridge road sunday, which is about 5 miles south of valley park, runs to the levee. water on both sides. saw the largest heard of deer I have ever seen in my life. Must have been 500 running together through the low water
