Swamp People gator weights

Swamp People is one of my favorite shows, but does anyone else notice that the narrarator always exagerates the weights of the alligators. I am by no means an old hand at alligator hunting, but I have drawn a tag in Alabama's season a few years ago and killed a 9.5' gator and I know what some of the biggest gators brought in weigh and it is no where close to the weights they give on the show. The biggest gator killed yet in Alabama was in the 700 lb range. Clearly there is some exageration for effect, but I was watching a rerun of the last episode last night and Joe and Tommy caught an 8' gator that purportedly weighed 300 pounds. If it weighed 150 lbs I would be shocked. Its a great show, I think they just go a little overboard on exagerating the weights.

i love that show, that being said...it has some of the worst producing and editing ive ever seen. The video of them fighting a gator will be a 10 footer then when they shoot it and pull it in the boat it'll be a 6' gator (that weighs a whopping 500lbs) and it probably almost bit willie's foot off too

I think they spread the truth just a bit, but it is lousianna and I would think the gators in some areas are going to be bigger than Alabama or Mississippi. Just look at what Troy pulls vs Joe and Tommy, Joe and Tommy hunt in what looks to be in the grassy areas of the swamp vs Troy the canals and back bayous. Same with willie, he pulls decent size gators, but that episode he said was a monster at night turned out to be about 8 ft gator. Like all fishing stories, they tend to get bigger each time you tell it.
The thing that gets me is the alligator POV, it was cool see the up close fight a few times toward the end of last season, but thats the way they show the fight every time now. I would love to see it from the side about 20 ft away so you see the start to finish, just blur out the part where they shoot the animal. About the closet you see a start to finish fight without all the editing is when Willie catches one on the treble hook. The slow kill shot they make is getting old also, its funny that everytime the animals head is under water when they make that shot, there is always that big splash of the bullet,

you would think they would have the head out of the water everytime when they make that shot, but thats tv.

I think the intro warning message is a little off base as well.. They say "this lifestyle, especially gator hunting, goes back 300 years"
Uhhh, unless I missed something in History Class, they didn't have outboards and airboats 300 years ago, nor did they have 22 caliber semi auto rifles..
And I always wonder how they keep those boats afloat with all that "weight" in there..

You beat me to it. I saw an episode the other day where the character was shown holding 3 different guns during a 30-second scene.

I like the show but all comments above are right on. I think the weights on the bigger gators is probably close but they definetly say too many 6 footers weigh 300 or 7 footers that weigh 500. It is crazy how many different guns they show them holding during a fight secene.

I've caught 6 footers that weighed no more than a bag of feed.
Even our local pro gator guy, aka stumpy, will tell you that show is way off. Like the "gators have acid in their teeth" comment Jr made a while back.

I don't watch much tv, but I don't see what the big deal is over this show. It seems repetitive and predictable.
I don't know, I'm a bit of a cynic by nature, but I have never found the show to be that entertaining.
Modern Marvels...now THAT is an entertaining show...

I stopped watching it regularly because of all the things yall are mentioning. Also got sick of hearing about "its dat gravy" and the Houma indian way of doing things. What about the two dirty booty brothers? First off they are too gross for me to watch, secondly, when their boat motor supposedly wouldn't start "a dreaded 4 miles from home" there were camera shots from about 30 ft away of them paddling. If their clunker motor was even broke down in the first place, you telling me that the film crew getting those shots refused to give them a tow?
Ax Men got the same way with all the stretching stuff, just there the fights all seemed staged and were over ridiculous things.

the narrator said they had well over 100 lbs of catfish in the boat. Unless they had a second boat with about 50 lbs of fish in it, I'm calling BS. My wife even noticed one night, she looked at me and said "Does every gator weigh 750 lbs?".
