New Tires

Postby Beaudog1 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:56 am

Need a new set of tires for my '03 Yukon. Anyone have any recommendations for an all-terrain (265/70/16) that isn't going to cost me a grand for a set? Just want a decent tire that can get me in and out of fields and such.

Thanks.

Got about 40k on my Nitto Grappler AT's and probably will get another 20k out of them. Pretty aggressive AT tire that rides well on the HWY.

I am on my second set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on my '08 Tacoma. They are pretty aggressive all-terrains but ride very smoothly.

there was a fellow on here not too long ago wanting to get rid of some BFG at's that were brand new. Put them on his wife's car and she didn't like the ride. Best AT tire on the market from a longevity standpoint and that's the only tire I run on my trucks.

I believe his handle was "Chuckle12"

I would recommend Nitto Terra Grapplers; good quiet and smooth ride on the highway and still get me around good in stuff that isn't too bad (wet pastures and catfish pond levees are about the worst I get offroad in). I'm on my second set ....got over 70K miles out of the first set (295/75-16). Not too pricey either, i paid less than $750 for the most recent set I got (285/75-16), about a year ago. Also, I haven't had the first leak or flat on either set.

I have 36k on some Grappler ATs on my F150 and they are doing very well. Typical tire rotation or they get noisy, but overall very pleased with them.

I bought some Primewell PA100 32's and I like them. But theyre loud. Got about 20k on them now and still look brand new. I'll buy another set, they were $400 at Firestone.

Most of these tires are aggressive....and make noise on the highway. If you want a real good tire for highway that can also drive on grass and dirt roads.....look at the Michelin LTX M/S2's. I just got rid of a Z71 with them on it......smoothest ride I ever had in a truck tire. If not aggressive enough, you can go with the Toyo's or Nitto's...but they'll be louder and won't last as long......but will get you out of mud a little easier. I paid 800 for the michelins.

I run nothin but bfg at and have close to 40000 on them wit bout 30000 left on them. They are a lil louder than a highway tire, but compared to my xtreme mt's they make no noise and ride well too.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

Those that talk about their tires being loud, how often do you rotate?

Any all-terrain tire will get loud if not rotated often. I'm talking rotate every other oil change.

I don't understand why people don't rotate every oil change considering most people go to 5 or 6k miles b/t changes now a days. I got 82k out of a set of a BFG M/T's a few years ago and I rotated them every oil change. They still had about 10k left in them and I sold them on Craigslist for $150. Rotation is the key to longevity in a tire.

I got in some 34''(33.8'' actual) Terra's at T&L in Brandon for under 1k with mount balance and alignment. Love those tires. You should be able to get in a smaller one for under 700

I rotate every 8-10k, got 20k on the current set and should be able to get another 15-20k

In my experience with BFG AT tires they last a long time but due to that fact the tread tends to "harden" and sometimes you'll get cupping way before the tire is EOL.
