Pintail mallet hybrid that bred with a mallard again. 2nd generation maybe. Sure doesn't have much pintail in it

It came in with a drake gray duck so I'm leaning more towards a gadwall x mallard hybrid but it is tough to say being it is a hen. The bill looks like a gadwall hen except for the specks. Its my first hybrid either way and no I didn't kill it at Crossgates WMA :P

Why were you shooting hens ? A man of your stature doesnt do such things ! Pintail/Gadwall Hen is my guess.

Mallard x Gadwall. Bill looks to be of Gadwall descent. Also the speculum has white in it along with the black. Gads are only duck with white speculum. Thats my guess

Commonly refered to as "Wall Hanmger" in my household! Nice bird. Gadwal x mallard cross is a Brewer's Duck and I don't think that's the case. I'm guessing maybe gadwall x green-wing or pintail.

+1 on hen Mallard x Gadwall, or Brewer's duck. The hen feathers look like that of a hen mallard to me, and the green in the wing is the mix of blue from the mallard as well. If it were a pintail or greenwing hybrid, it would be smaller.

Hens get in the way sometimes! That was just the hens for comparison. The rest were drakes  I'm starting to lean a little more towards pintail x gadwall now that y'all brought that up. I'm guessing a mallard cross would have more blue in the speculum.

Well it has rained a good bit since we last talked :D

I am debating on whether or not to mount her. If it was a drake it would be a no brainer...

A if it were Pintail x Gadwall, it would be smaller. The green in the wings comes from the "mixing" of the Gadwall speculum and the Mallard speculum.

just from looking at male brewers duck (gad/mallard) pictures, most of them have green specs too, so i think whichever Pitt posted above me is probably correct. I don't see pintail at all when I look at it. A hen pinny has one of the most distinct feather patterns out of all the pudller hens, I think if there was pintail in it it would stick out like a sore thumb. I wish it was mixed with a pintail, I bet it would be beautiful. Very cool bird either way and we'll never know for sure.

I wonder how many of these get killed and simply strapped as either a hen grey or a hen mallard. My guess is a bunch based upon how many reports you see about the males getting shot. You'd be amazed at how many people can misidentify a full blooded grey.
