I bought a brand new 5x8 tilt economy Baker Trailer last December from an out of town ( for me ) equipment sale business last December. Today, I just discovered that there is a defect in the angle iron that was used. You see, at the very end of each side of the trailer, the last two inches or so of the angle iron frame, right in the bend in the angle, a crack has developed in the angle iron. It doesn't appear to be critical or anything right now, but it's troubling to me.
I happened to be in Pearl with the trailer today, and decided to stop by the Baker Trailer main office in Pearl to see if the welder could fix the trailer. I told them that the trailer had not been wrecked or anything, and they told me that I have not loaded my ATV improperly, and they didn't know why it cracked. I suggested that they weld a bead to fill in the cracks, and then brace the area with another small piece of angle iron. I'm not asking for a refund on my purchase, and I'm certainly not talking about a lot of materials needed to fix the problem. They probably could have found scraps lying around that would have been perfect to fix this. They could have easily fixed this problem and sent me out the door a very happy customer, with good things to say about them.
Instead, I was told that because I didn't buy the trailer from them directly, I would have to pay to have the trailer fixed. They told me, that even though I bought this trailer brand new this past December, they wouldn't be able to honor the one year factory warrantee. Well, I can say that I am completely dissatisfied with the Baker Trailer company because of this. In my opinion, they are telling me bluntly that the Baker Trailer company does not standing behind their products.
My problem is that I originally bought this trailer out of necessity while I was out of town. I don't believe that I should have to take it back to the dealer whom I originally bought it from. Frankly, the money needed to get this fixed by some other welder is not the problem. My problem is the whole idea of the Baker Trailer company looking for excuses so they would not have to stand behind their products. I will have nothing good to say about the Baker Trailer company after this. I'm going to take it to my welder friend and give him a "Jackson" to fix this minor crack before it does become a real problem. In hindsight, I can now clearly see that I should have waited and shopped around for the trailer, instead of buying it on the impulse because the price was right.
Signed, Frustrated. You get what you pay for.
